A SNFist is a physician or other healthcare provider who specializes in caring for patients in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs).
Methodology:
Identification of NH care specialized practice:
Use Medicare Data on Provider Practice and Specialty dataset (MD-PPAS). A practice will be considered as a NH specialized practice if more than 90% of its National Provider Identifiers (NPIs) are consistent with “SNFist”

Practice Characteristics:
We analyzed the characteristics of identified NH specialized practices. This includes:
-
Average number of National Provider Identifiers (NPIs) associated with the practice
-
Primary specialty of the practice (e.g., primary, cardiology, geriatrics)
-
Average age of clinicians
-
Percentage of female clinicians
-
Average number of patients served (beneficiaries)
-
Average number of service lines
-
Location (urban or rural)
Practice name:

Practice type:
Identify the type of practice … NH staff agency, NH owned, hospital affiliated
